On Tuesday, June 14^th, 2022, Hanover Police were made aware of an attempted online extortion. In this occurrence, the male victim was chatting online with a “female” he had met through Instagram. During the conversation, the female was able to obtain “inappropriate” images of the victim. The female then demanded a large sum of money on threat that the images would be released to cause embarrassment. Hanover Police would like to caution everyone to never participate online in actions that if discovered by family and friends would cause you embarrassment or concern.  If anyone has information about this attempted extortion, they are asked to contact the Hanover Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by submitting a secure Web Tip.
