Grandparent Scam

Hanover Police recently received a report of a grandparent fraud, which occurred within the Town of Hanover. In this fraud, the suspects contacted the elderly victim reporting to be a “grandchild”. The caller told the victim that they were from the RCMP and demanded money to secure the release of the “grandchild”. The victim provided a large amount of money via mail. Hanover Police are asking that all members of the public speak with their venerable relatives and friends about this type of fraud to prevent re-occurrences. If anyone has information about this occurrence, they are asked to contact the Hanover Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by submitting a secure Web Tip.
