On Friday, January 28th, 2022, Hanover Police received a report of an attempted “grandparent” fraud. In this occurrence, the suspects contacted an elderly person claiming to be their grandson. The person then claimed to need money to be released from jail. The suspects claimed that they needed $9000.00. The victim did not provide the money and instead contacted police. Hanover Police would request family members speak with anyone who could be susceptible to this sort of fraud and alert them of the circumstances. If anyone has information about his fraud attempt, they are asked to contact the Hanover Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by submitting a secure Web Tip.
