Fraud

Hanover Police continues to investigate a fraud, which occurred in Hanover on Thursday, June 8th, 2023. The victim in this matter reported to police that she had received a telephone call from a person indicating that she was the victim of a fraudulent Amazon purchase. The caller convinced the victim that an investigative representative from her bank was aware. This person then accused the victim of being involved in the fraudulent purchase and said she would be arrested the following day. The victim was convinced to withdraw several thousand dollars from her bank account and attend a bitcoin facility in Owen Sound. She did this and is now out the money. Hanover Police are reminding persons to NEVER provide money to unknown persons after receiving such a phone call.
