Bitcoin Fraud

Hanover Police continues to investigate a bitcoin fraud, which recently occurred in Hanover. In this fraud, the victim’s computer was “hacked” and frozen. The victim then received an alert from what she thought was Microsoft asking for bitcoin to unfreeze the computer. The victim complied by attending a business in Hanover that facilitates bitcoin transactions. After sending the money, all communication ceased with the fraudsters. Hanover Police are strongly cautioning people against dealing in bitcoin unless they possess above average investment experience. Computer issues should first be checked out by a qualified local business.
